GeoSim is a 3D simulator that lets the user experience a geographical location from their computer and discover the geological data stored within. This page gives a short introduction to using GeoSim.
When you start the simulator, you will be presented with a view similar to the one shown in figure 1. The simulator is controlled with the mouse, and navigation is performed by holding any mouse button and moving the mouse. To read more about using the mouse to move around in GeoSim, please see the Fly Modes page.

Moving in a virtual 3D world can be confusing for new users, and it is easy to get lost. To help you, there is an area in the lower left corner of the screen that displays information about your current location and heading. This area is referred to as the GPS in GeoSim, and is shown in figure 2. The compass on the GPS shows your current heading and your current location is shown as easting and northing. If you are more familiar with using latitude and longitude, you can set the GPS to show this instead in the Settings Panel. The elevation is shown as 2 values: The elevation above sealevel, and the elevation above ground. The unit for elevation, as well as for the speed, can also be set in the Settings Panel.

The GPS is also important because you can access the rest of the user interface from here. There are 5 buttons at the top of the GPS. They are, from left to right:
Resource Panel
Information Panel
Map Panel
Settings
Help. Opens the help pages you are looking at.
To see more information about GeoSim, right click on the GPS and select "About GeoSim" from the meny.
